Raised in a family of musicians and music lovers, Benjamin’s life has been heavily impacted by a multitude of musical genres including jazz, classic rock, pop, singer-songwriters and classical piano/orchestral music. After completing four years of intense studies at both Berklee College of Music and the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Benjamin now pulls elements from his various influences and melds them together to create a unique and personal sound.
Following the release of his debut album, Setting Sail, in July of 2018, Benjamin hosted a one year long residency at Pianos NYC and has continued to make waves in the NYC jazz community. “Lovely and relaxed grooves in odd meters and otherwise. Along with his actively performing sextet, Benjamin has begun working with various NYC based Big Band’s including The New Alchemy Jazz Orchestra, Lady Gaga’s Jazz & Piano at MGM and the New School Studio Orchestra – directed by Arturo O’Farrill. John Clayton, Darcy James Argue and the Village Vanguard’s Nick Marchione and Douglas Purviance. His most recent project, The Do You Love Big Band, is an all original big band who made its debut in May as a part of the New School’s 2019 Senior Recital Season.
